Liver pain, Liver disease symptoms
Liver pain
Liver pain is an abdominal pain felt in the right upper abdomen. The pain
comes from your liver, which is a very insensitive organ to pain due to
lack of sensory nerve fibers in its interior. Therefore, liver damage or
abnormal changes in liver cells within the liver often not enough to cause
a noticeable pain. Only when the liver is greatly enlarged, it can cause a liver pain.
With a swelling or enlargement of the liver, there is usually an unpleasant feeling of pressure, or a dull pain, often described by affected patients. Liver disease symptoms present with a persistent or intermittent distending pain or dull pain, tenderness, or even occasionally cramp-like pain. Sometimes, liver pain gets worse when you feel tired, or take a deep breath, or becomes sensitive when you touch or press on your liver area. Incidentally, indigestion and flatulence are also a common symptoms of an enlarged liver.
There is no nerve fibers contained within the liver to sense pain, so liver is the actually quite insensitive to pain. Liver pain is produced from the liver's capsule that surrounds the liver tissue itself and the pain nerve fibers are distributed herein. Diseases that stretch the liver's capsule to stimulate the pain nerve fibers can lead to pain in the liver area. During the development of condition, enlarged liver and liver pain are the two main symptoms.
This liver enlargement can be diagnosed by an experienced physician by palpation below the right rib area. More accurate examination, relying on measurements during an abdominal ultrasound examination, or on CT images.
Although the liver pain is attributed to an enlarge liver, this fact is there could be a liver disease behind it. Hepatitis is a group of inflammation of the liver, and often comes from infection of bacteria, viruses or fungi, also too much alcohol or certain medications. By the development of inflammation, your liver inflames and subsequently enlarges. As a result, liver pain occurs. Instead, liver cirrhosis does not cause a liver pain, because the size of liver reduces in this case. In contrast, the liver in a fatty liver is greatly enlarged. people with fatty liver often have a fullness or heaviness feeling in upper right abdomen. Liver pain often attacks in patients with moderate and severe enlargement of liver.
For the prevention of a liver pain, you should avoid largely animal fats, because they favor a fatty liver. Moreover, excessive consumption of alcohol should be avoided, of course, it is well known that alcohol damages the liver. At worst, this can manifest itself in liver cirrhosis. In order not to suffer from viral hepatitis, it is especially important to get vaccinated.
